Reflections
In my work I am excited by the idea of beauty in imperfection — specifically entropy – as things move from order to disorder. I am interested in how, through human or environmental processes urban manufactured environments decay and evolve, shifting from an ordered, right- angled newness towards disorder and chaos. Finding beauty in chaos is an act of hope.
My approach to art making is process driven, using a variety of materials, including: linen, wood, plaster, metal, ink and paint. These materials lend themselves to weathering, creating organic texture and depth, to which I then respond to with mark making that is often geometric and hard edged. What I hope to achieve is a tension between these two narratives – disorder and the order I am trying to impose.
