Reflections:
As a contemporary textile artist, I have always straddled the line between art and craft. Both are equally as important to me and, in addition to having a growing exhibition list, I have taught craft related technique classes for over 10 years.
My work explores my own identity and intersections as a queer woman with an invisible disability, I live my life “queerly” or to some degree of abstraction from “the norm”. This shows up in my work in many ways from colour and shape to reclamation of materials and love of folklore.
I make my own tools out of reclaimed materials and reuse textiles that would otherwise be discarded. This is something I have done my whole life and is, in many ways, connected to my upbringing. It has made me resilient and curious about what my needs actually are, where my privilege lies and how I can create work that explores the nuance of how I got to be where I am.
