Savageable
Floodline Collective
May 1st to June 5th
Claudette Abrams, Michael Dewdney, Anthea Baxter-Page & Berkley J Abrams Page
Artists present site-specific inventories of images and ideas exploring personal accumulation and global footprint.
As casualties of modernity, we find ourselves unwitting collectors of castaway forms and findings, in whose composite we discern something like a mass biography of human activity, influence and impact. This process is in constant flux and veritable as the particulate matter we breathe and the micro-plastics that flow through our veins. Reflecting on this recombinant impulse, like ragpickers, we recycle fragmentary fictions and inconvenient truths.
Exhibited outdoors as a collective of individual freestanding vitrines mapped around Toronto Island.

ARTISTS
The Leavings series attempts to reclaim the ethos of abandoned places and things.
As someone who spends much time crossing Toronto's inner harbour, Michael Dewdney is lured by the cornucopia of salvageable, everyday objects found in these waters, both literal and metaphorical. In the Lake Effect series he explores this; be it flotsam and jetsam in the island lagoons or any manner of aged watercraft plying the waters of the harbour, all have their own stories to tell.
The Auction series aims to reclaim and revitalize previously owned objects, grasping at the stories and experiences of those who collected, utilized or cherished them.
The Clean Cut Series reflects disempowerment and frustration of the conscious individual in the context of the climate disaster era. In a society that is increasingly reliant on petroleum products, we are at the mercy of a handful of capitalist who manipulate consumers to divert responsibility in the name of profit. This series plays witness to the plastic cuffs of corporate greed.

Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Exhibition
CONTACT is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to celebrating and fostering the art and profession of photography with an annual Festival in May throughout Toronto and year-round programming in the CONTACT Gallery. CONTACT embraces an inclusive and accessible approach to the medium, and cultivates collaborations with and among artists, curators, institutions, and organizations.
Each year CONTACT showcases lens-based projects by Canadian and international artists. The Festival’s Core Exhibitions are comprised of collaborations with major museums, leading galleries, and artist-run centres as well as site-specific public art projects. These are cultivated through partnerships and commissions, and frame the cultural, social, and political events of our times. The Featured Exhibitions, selected through a jury process, and the Open Call Exhibitions present a wide range of works at galleries and alternative spaces across the city, The Festival’s Programs include photo-book initiatives, lectures, artist talks, panel discussions, and workshops. CONTACT exhibitions and programs are free and open to the public, with some exceptions at major museums.
