LAURA SHEPHERD is a mixed media landscape artist living and working on Toronto Island. She is part of both the plein air collective FAS at Artscape Gibraltar Point, and the Toronto Island Box Gallery Project.
She works primarily in scratchboard, and is currently over-drawing and colouring the resulting matrices with different media. She is inspired by the nature surrounding her, and experiments with scale and substrates.
The Boardwalk in Snow series evolved from an original scratchboard artwork and shows the progression from falling snow to a quiet snowy night. The boardwalk is a place near to the artist’s home on Toronto Island. Winter on the Island always brings a peaceful calm, an escape from the buste of city life.
