Vision
SHANNON WESTON creates stylized figurative ceramic sculptures that are adorned with tactile designs inspired by African scarification. These pieces are made based on ideas of self-discovery through cultural practice. Born in Jamaica and raised in a conservative Christian home which both have significantly different ideas about body modification. Her work features physical manifestations of her personal journey as a young, black woman where marking the skin was frowned upon. As a visual artist who is drawn to this form of expression, Shannon incorporates the history of her African heritage which states that body alteration was practiced not only because it was mandatory for socio-economic, political or religious reasons but also because it symbolizes beauty.
Custom works available for commission, scheduling for 2022. Contact Studio Little Red to find out more and get on her collectorβs list.
